I was in the process of trying to get in touch with Ryerson classmates for a 40th anniversary reunion next year and came across this very sad news.
We were all very young men back then and I remember Norm VERY clearly as the friendly, funny, mature-for-his-age guy that everyone enjoyed being around in our little gang - as Brian McCarthy mentions in his note above.
Please accept my sincere condolences - and if 'the gang' does get together next fall, we will be sure to have a moment in Norm's memory - which will probably involve a little drink and much laughing as Norm would have liked.
Sincerely, Calvin

Sylvia and Monique,
I am so so sorry about Normand.
I was just using Internet and came upon his obituary.
It was so long ago when I was dating you sylvie and I got to know your family.
It was an extraordinary experience. You guys introduced me to a amazingly different culture
which I had not known. Norm was a funny nice guy. It's way to young to die. He left an impression on me and I have always rembered him and your parents. Your Parents and norm were truly extraordinary people. Again I'm so sorry.

Dear Monique,
As I saw you, Nicholas and Melanie today, I couldn't help but have this pain in the pitt of my stomach.. knowing that you have lost a big part of your Family as Norm was a rock in my eyes.. I would've loved to chat more with you but knew I wouldn't have the time to say everything I wanted to say.. I regret not keeping in touch with you guys over the years but for me after Pierre passed it took me a long time to be able to get out of my comfort zone.. Norm was there for me in so many ways and I never properly thanked him.. he was my Go To Guy for everything at the time... he will always be in my heart and the memories we shared all 4 of us will remain there too.. I am so grateful for the many pictures I have of you and Norm, and the fact that I can open my albums and see your smiles of back in the day.. love you always Monique, and may God help you, Melanie and Nicholas during this sad and difficult time..
Friends always!!
Joanne Bedard

Hello Monique
I am heartbroken to hear of Norman's passing. Please accept Brenda's and my deepest condolences.
Our prayers are to celebrate Norman's life and a hope that you and the kids have the support of family and will find some measure of peace with time.
When we came for a visit Norman seemed just like the same old strong guy. It was so nice and comfortable to go to the rodeo and just sit together and enjoy the day. Why didn't we visit earlier, I have struggled with depression for a while now and have trouble being around people. And now I can't visit at all. I realize now how precious that visit was.
Norman was a deep, dear friend. We had so many adventures together and he pulled me out of any number of situations. When we met in college I was struggling with living in the big city and Norman's maturity and common sense helped me survive. Life in Toronto was brighter with Norman.
We had many fun times out West. Our backpacking trips are fond memories. There was that messed up trip where I had the directions to start point wrong and everyone had forgot toilet paper. But we did have books so we had to read fast to keep up with nature calls. One trip leaving from Sunshine we were snowed on and camped at Howard Douglas Lake. Brenda became hypothermic but Norman to the rescue with a little propane power space heater. I have photos of that trip with Norman by the side of the lake, in a snow storm fishing. Was that the trip we ran into the grizzly? Norman and I had another trip into Amethyst Lakes near Jasper. It was a beautiful site but then it started raining. So we hid in my little tent and finished a bottle of scotch. After the rain a park ranger came by and said we didn't have the proper permit and told us to get out. That was a long hike out.
There are so many things that come to mind, the trip to my parents cottage on the Petawa River, the two pitch game in Red Deer, karate classes at Ryerson ……
I am proud to have had Norman as a friend. He helped me in my life and I live things I learned from him.
I don't know what to say. We pray you find peace and strength in the family and friends that I know are around you.
Brian and Brenda

I had posted the other day, and am not certain that the post was saved. My apologies...
Our sympathy and prayers go out to the Piche family. I have know Norman for many years, and we affectionately referred to each other as "brothers from another mother", and that may very well be true. We are saddened to learn of his passing, and we can only hope that your faith will allow you to feel the love that God provides for us all. May you see light where there is darkness, may you feel warmth when it is cold, and may you hear kind words when there seems to be none. You are in and will remain in our thoughts and prayers. Glenn

It was a pleasure having worked with and known Norman as a business associate, and as a friend. As others, I was saddened by the news of his passing, and offer my condolences to the Piche family. Know that your family is and will remain in our thoughts and prayers. May you know God's intentions and be able to feel comfort through God's love even in the void that is left by Norman's passing. Norman was intense, sincere, honest, and fun... and he is missed. He truly was my brother from another mother... Glenn
